23.02.2017 - Your gateway to China and Asia from Switzerland
Safe Host and China Telecom Europe are pleased to announce an interconnection partnership allowing Safe Host's customers fast and easy access to China and the Far East for their IT systems from Safe Host’s Swiss data centres.
The interconnection provides Safe Host's customers a direct link to China Telecom’s 144 million fixed line, 107 million broadband and 186 million mobile subscribers. It gives companies the ability to direct-connect their IT racks to the richest Chinese content base as ChinaNet hosts 80% of Chinese content.
Safe Host’s customers can now connect their IT racks directly to the fastest growing consumer market in the world while also accessing China Telecom’s Asia network that spans all major Asian capitals. IT systems at Safe Host’s data centres are now able to cache content in China whilst keeping their critical data stored in Switzerland. With these dedicated routes between Safe Host’s data centres and the China Telecom Global footprint, latency and costs normally associated with accessing users in China and Asia from Switzerland are greatly reduced.
Sino-Swiss economic relations have accelerated over the past years. In 2007, China and Switzerland signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the intensification of high-level political consultations and the further deepening of bilateral relations. Today, China is Switzerland's primary trading partner in Asia. The entry into force of the bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between China and Switzerland on July 1, 2014 have further deepened the economic relations between the two countries. For China it is also the first FTA to come into effect with a continental European country, and with one of the top 20 world economies. It enhances the benefits Switzerland already offers Chinese companies looking to operate in the European market. Switzerland lies at the heart of Europe but yet remains independent helping to make it the most competitive business location in the world according to the ‘Global Competitiveness Report 2016-2017’.
Switzerland has topped the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitive Index for the last eight consecutive years and has one of the world’s best innovation ecosystems. This, coupled with an outward looking trade policy and unmatched transport, communication and data centre infrastructure has made the country an attractive destination for corporate, UN and NGO headquarters. To this end, numerous Chinese companies including Sinopec, China Construction Bank and Huawei have located their European HQs in Switzerland.
